Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree yesterday for the payment of Russian gas in rubles, and announced that the Russian gas contracts would be stopped if the payment was not made in rubles. After the development, Russian Gazprom sent an information note to its customers regarding the new payment system.
According to the new decree, two accounts in euro and ruble will be opened in the bank for European buyers. Gazprombank will also be able to act as an intermediary and convert the money into rubles on behalf of the customer.
Gazprom made a statement on the subject: “Gazprom, a Russian company, fully and unconditionally complies with the laws of Russia. Gazprom is a reliable partner and continues to deliver gas to its customers safely.”
