US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who came to Jerusalem as part of the “Najaf Summit” to be hosted by Israel tomorrow, pointed to the agreements reached between Tel Aviv and some Arab countries, “We see that normalization has become the new normal for this region.” said.
According to the statement made by the Presidency of Israel, Blinken was received by President Isaac Herzog.
During the meeting, Blinken stated that he will go to the Najaf (Negev) Desert region this evening to attend the Najaf Summit to be held tomorrow.
Praising the normalization between Israel and some Arab countries, Blinken said:
“Something is happening that I thought was unimaginable just a few years ago. We are seeing normalization become the new normal for this region. I think this will attract more countries as we see the benefits of these partnerships among many of the leading countries in the region.”
The Najaf Summit is an “enormous opportunity”
Blinken stated that he is proud that his country is a part of this process and supports efforts to deepen partnerships with countries that have already normalized their relations with Israel. He said the Summit was an “enormous opportunity” for that.
Israeli President Herzog also drew attention to the importance of the Najaf Summit and said, “We will work together for greater regional cooperation and for the benefit of all peoples and peace in the region, and of course to prevent any threat to Israel.” said.
Herzog, emphasizing that Blinken and the USA are Israel’s most important ally and closest friend, expressed his satisfaction with this visit.
The foreign ministers of the USA, Egypt, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Morocco and Bahrain will attend the Najaf Summit to be held on March 28, hosted by Israel.
The UAE, Bahrain and Morocco signed agreements to normalize relations with Israel in 2020.
